The Balkan WM team in Slovenia - 06.11.09

In the 10th day of the Balkan WM team we reached Ljubljana where we were more than welcomed by the students and the authorities of the Faculty of Arts and the mayor of the town as well, Mr. Zoran Janković. Although the local organizations (Association for Civil Society of Slovenia – LOM, Faculty of Arts, Peace Institute, Zavod Voluntariat ) that have organized the events of the day have been lately aware of the WM they have been pretty active and effective in their task. In fact, the endorsement and the active participation of the University was also extremely fast.
On to Macedonia amid folklore and conflicts

On the road from Salonicco to Skopje, the coach carrying the World March of the Balkans was welcomed by mayors, councillors for culture and hundreds of children and teachers in the towns of the Republic of Macedonia. The march, organised by the humanist organisation, World Without Wars, this time passed through Bitola, Resen, Ohrid, Struga, Gostivar, Tetovo and Skopje.

On Saturday 7th June one peace symbol was made during Basker Fest in Skopje.
There was the partecipation of World without wars, Universal Peace Federation, pacifists, students and youth associations.
Local press has given big space about this manifestation. The World March will be in macedonian capital on 30th and 31th of October 2009, thanking to the collaboration of Sportovnj Union, which is looking after about organizing logistic of these days.
Peace Declaration Adopted during World March Stay in Sarajevo
The participants of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence and their local partners - Education Builds BiH association; Sports Union of the Canton of Sarajevo; Why Not Civil Association; OneWorld Platform for Southeast Europe Foundation; Skenderija Youth Centre; and Alt Theatre – together with other peace and civic organizations, held a meeting on November 4, in Srajevo, and adopted a Declaration that will be read at the arrival of the World March in Geneva. Today a delegation of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence Balkan team had a meeting with Stjepan Mesić, President of Croatia. During the meeting he was presented with the documents of the World March and asked to read and endorse the Nobel Laureates Charter for a World without Violence. "There's no one more in favour of peace than I am".

As the World March for Peace and Nonviolence reaches Bosnia and Herzegovina on day 8 of its Balkans tour the March was welcomed by Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić and by the city Mayor, Alija Behmen. Accompanying the March at the start of its procession through the 16th century streets around Baščaršija square, Sarajevo, Komšić wished the March all the best.

The World March was met today in Pristina by representatives of; Vetevendosje, involved in the promotion of human rights, self-determination for Kosovars and the Multicultural Pedagogical Institute, PEDAKS and Operazione Colomba, a network of young volunteers who promote dialogue between all the five communities in Kosovo: Albanians, Serbs, Roma, Egyptians and Turks.
World March for Peace and Nonviolence to meet President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov

Today, the World March reached the Republic of Macedonia, the 21st country of over 90 through which it will pass before culminating in Argentina on the 2nd of January. During a public meeting in Ohrid this evening, Dmitar Mirched, an advisor to the Cabinet of President Gjorge Ivanov, confirmed that the President will meet a delegation of the WM at 4pm tomorrow in Skopje.
World peace march has arrived in Thessaloníki
After Istanbul and 1000 kilometres passed, world peace parch, on its Balkan route has arrived in Thessaloníki. Marchers were welcomed on Aristotle square by numerous activists and supporters. After welcome speeches, theater performances and concert, the square was alight by hundreds of torches, suggestively forming the symbol of peace.
